What do you believe the role of the Student Body Treasurer is?
The main two focuses of the student body treasurer are overseeing annual funding and one-time funding. Both items are done with the help of the Student Fee Allocation Committee (SFAC). The treasurer’s job, with the help of SFAC, is to allocate the student fees fund to students and student organizations.
What are your goals for this position? Are there specific issues you hope to address through initiatives or projects in this position?
My goal as treasurer would be to ensure that each and every student at Drake is able to access the benefits of the student fees fund. This fund is there to benefit every Drake student on campus. Through both annual and one-time funding, I will take all available information into consideration and create the most fair and unbiased recommendations to my team. I will also ensure that I am available to help any student or student organization through either process, giving them their fair opportunity to request funding.
What experience has prepared you for this position? Why are you the best person for this role?
Serving as the Zimpleman College of Business Senator, I feel that I am very prepared to be on the Senate Executive Board. Through my service on SFAC throughout this past year, I feel that I am familiar with the role that the treasurer plays. I am also the treasurer or vice president of finance in other organizations. This has helped me build confidence when making decisions with financial implications. All these reasons make me the perfect candidate for student body treasurer.
How will you ensure that you and the Student Senate will represent the interests of the student body?
I feel that I have done a good job expanding my Drake network during my first two years on campus. I will use all the connections I have made to get input from different areas within the campus community. Every issue that comes to my attention will not be ignored. I will also be more than willing to listen to any concern about any aspect of Drake, even if it does not fall within the treasurer’s jurisdiction. I think that as treasurer, it is my job to not only have a positive impact through the exact responsibilities of treasurer but help every Drake student as a student leader on Senate.
How would you make sure you are aware of the needs of the student body?
Like stated before, I value all the connections I have made throughout our campus. Maintaining those connections through conversations about the community is crucial. As treasurer, I will lean even further into those relationships to truly understand the positive and negative things going on.
Why should the student body vote for you?
Students should vote for me because I am committed to improving student life at Drake. I have developed the knowledge and relationships needed to effectively advocate for students through my years of experience on Student Senate. I care about making sure every student feels supported on campus.
How do you plan to balance this role with your other commitments?
In the past two years, I have built a strong foundation of time management skills. These skills will help me balance the responsibility of student body treasurer with my other commitments. I have already created a schedule for the fall semester that includes all the time that is required for the student body treasurer.
