Nathan Jacobson was named first-year senator early Tuesday morning on Pomerantz Stage after a run-off election against Jared Freemon.
Election Commission Chair Julianne Klampe said 186 students voted in the run-off election.
“Voter turnout was good,” Klampe said. “That’s a pretty respectable number.”
After the announcement, Jacobson hugged his supporters.
“I’d like to say, ‘Thank you very much,’” Jacobson said. “It’s an honor to serve the first-year class to the best of my ability. I take the responsibility very seriously.”
While his official title is ‘senator,’ Jacobson said his primary role is “listener.”
“My main goal is to be a listener to the first-year class and make sure their concerns are addressed,” Jacobson said.
Jacobson’s first Senate meeting is tonight at 9 p.m. in upper Olmsted Center.
