Student Senate only had one item of new business this week, the creation of a committee centered on the Quasi Endowment Fund.

The Quasi Endowment Fund consists of leftover student activities fees each year and has been used to pay for several new improvements on campus,  including the installations of the new water bottle filling stations in the residence halls and academic buildings.

It also pays for Free Movie Friday.

This week senate voted on a motion that created an Ad Hoc committee to oversee the fund. Buildings and Grounds Senator Joshua Duden was elected to chair the committee.

“By using the funds we hope that we are able to bring real change to campus,” Duden said.

“By forming this committee tonight of the five members of the Student Senate and our executives,  we hope to be able to talk about it a little more in depth and actually apply some of the changes we’ve been talking about for so long,” he said.

The creation of the committee did not meet any opposition,  and the motion was passed by acclimation.

The other members serving on the committee are Senator Emily Grimm, Senator Cole Schwartz, Senator Ekta Haria, Senator Olivia O’Hea and Senator Jacob VanderVaart.

Academic Affairs Senator Olivia O’Hea is now in charge of distributing the remaining water bottles. They are available for pick-up in all the major academic buildings.

Student Senate reminds first-year students interested in participating in Senate to attend a general interest meeting on Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. in Sussman Theatre.

Committee applications are due September 14 at 5 p.m. and can be collected in the Student Life Center.
