The advertising capstone, Blue, Inc. wants all of campus to “embrace your inner ugly” by wearing an ugly Christmas sweater on Thursday.
The 42 advertising majors and minors wanted something unique for their fundraiser that would unite campus. Members will sell ugly Christmas sweaters Dec. 6-9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $5 in the Meredith and Goodwin- Kirk lobbies.
Lydia Metzger, senior advertising and graphic design major, said the goal of the fundraiser is to involve the whole campus.
“There isn’t much to do on campus for Christmas,” Metzger said. “We wanted something fun for campus and fun for us to promote the agency as well.”
Metzger said that ugly Christmas sweater parties happen throughout the holiday season and this makes it easier for students to find a sweater. She said that instead of spending time driving all over trying to find one, students will have access to 60-70 sweaters and sweatshirts on campus.
“I would love to see people participate on campus even if they already have one,” Metzger said.
Kara Rhodes, senior advertising major, said they wanted a non-traditional fundraiser that people will remember. She also noted that the event would form competition on campus.
“Everyone wants to have the ugliest Christmas sweater at their party, and we have handpicked the ugliest,” Rhodes said.
The money raised will help Blue, Inc. when they attend the National Student Advertising Competition in the spring. Rhodes said every sweater sold increases the group’s chances of winning the competition. Regionals take place in Kansas City, Mo. in April.
Blue, Inc. wants students to send pictures of them wearing their ugly Christmas sweaters, which will be posted on the Facebook page. Photos can be sent to [email protected].
