September 20

7:57 p.m.

Security was made aware of several students stealing food and having a food fight in Hubbell South on the evening of September 17 around closing time.

10:49 a.m.

Police, security, and the Des Moines Fire Department responded to 1427 30th street (Drake Real Estate Property) based on a fire alarm.  There was no smoke or fire and it was determined that the alarm was likely activated due to heat in the air.

September 21

10:55 a.m.

A female student reported a lap top computer was stolen from the student senate office in the Olmsted Center between 11:00 p.m. on September 16 and 2:30 p.m. on September 18.

8:53 p.m.

A hit and run was reported to have occurred at 26th and University and a motor vehicle accident occurred at 27th and Kingman a short time later.  It was determined the driver of the hit and run vehicle struck two other vehicles near 27th and Kingman and then came to a stop.  There were no injuries and the driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated.  The victim of the hit and run was a guest of a Drake camp.  It is unknown if the owners of the parked vehicles that were affiliated with the University.

September 23

11:58 a.m.

A Des Moines Detective advised they had arrested the suspect in the case that security reported on September 20 regarding an aggravated assault at 1219 34th street.  The student was arrested for willful injury which is a Class D Felony.

11:53 a.m.

Security responded to a Drake parking lot located in the 2600 block of Clark based on report from a staff member of a suspicious person who had been panhandling.  The male subject was recognized by security as a man who had been advised on trespass 17 times in past years and arrested ten times.  He ran but was stopped in another Drake parking lot located in the 1400 block of 25th street.  Two witnesses stated he had earlier asked them for money and one of the two told him he ought to go buy food instead of booze and drugs.  The suspect stated he would do what he wanted to do and told the staff member he was going to push him.  The staff member told him to leave and he walked away.  Police were called and he was arrested for the eleventh time and advised on trespass for the seventeenth time.

4:49 a.m.

A female staff member reported an Easy share z717.1 MP black digital camera was stolen from an unlocked room in the Harmon Fine Arts Center sometime between September 17 and September 22 at 5:00 p.m.

7:03 p.m.

Security and the Des Moines Fire Department responded to Jewett Residence Hall based on report of a fire alarm.  There was no smoke or fire and it was determined the activation of the alarm occurred because of a malfunction of the alarm head which was repaired shortly after.

12:58 a.m.

A female student reported she was wakened by a man in her room.  When he observed that she was awake he ran out the front door that was standing open.  Two lap top computers, Iphone and charger, and $20.00 in cash were stolen.  When the male suspect ran out the door he didn’t have any lap tops in his possession possibly indicating another intruder or; the suspect made a couple trips.  A screen had been cut to a window and the window was unlocked.  The incident occurred in the 2900 block of Brattleboro.

September 25

2:29 a.m.

A security officer found graffito on the alley wall of the Drake paper storage garage located at 1151 ½ 24th street.  The police have been notified.

11:20 a.m.

Security and the fire department responded to Carpenter Residence Hall based on a  fire alarm.  There was no fire or smoke and it was believed that a faulty smoke detector.
