David Skidmore, professor of politics and international relations, will give a lecture about his time as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Hong Kong in 2010.

In the lecture, “The Rise of China and the United States,” Skidmore will pull from his experiences in education reform while abroad. According to a Drake University press release, the lecture will focus on what the rise of China will mean for the United States.

“Power transition theory suggests that the risks of major power conflict peaks at the point when a rising challenger threatens to surpass the existing dominant state in power,” Skidmore said in the press release.

Skidmore also taught at the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies in China from 1996-97.

Skidmore is the director for the Principal Financial Group for the Center for Global Citizenship on campus. Before teaching at Drake, Skidmore taught at Hamilton College as well as the University of Notre Dame.

The lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Bulldog Theater in the basement of Olmsted.
