Drake University men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted the annual Bulldog Classic at Ewing Park on Friday.
Both teams battled through the sun and heat on the four-kilometer course and defeated the University of Northern Iowa but finished behind Iowa State University.
Sophomore Rob McCann was the top finisher for the men, finishing second with a time of 10 minutes, 50.34 seconds. Redshirt junior Doug Brady finished in 11:04.91 and placed ninth.
The Drake women placed three runners, including two sophomores, in the Top-10. Fourth-place finisher Taylor Scholl led the way with a time of 13:04.04. Sophomore Cassie Aerts finished eighth in 13:13.96, and junior Melissa Parks finished in 13:14.81 for ninth place.
Both teams return to action on Sept. 6 when they travel to Minneapolis for the Oz Memorial.
