7:00 p.m. Aug. 20
Security responded to Jewett Residence Hall based on a report that marijuana was being used in a room on the second floor. Security officers arrived and could smell marijuana coming from a room. The male student inside the room admitted he had been smoking marijuana and turned over a small amount. Police were notified. The dean of students was advised.
4:03 p.m. Aug. 21
A Drake law student reported to security that he had his law books lost or stolen from the first floor of Opperman Hall Library. He left them in a cubicle overnight and the next day they were gone.
9:25 a.m. Aug. 22
Security responded to the Drake Facilities Service dock on a report that a truck from Forward Air was making a delivery. As he was pulling away he hit a Drake Facilities Service van. Security caught up with the driver of the truck at the Olin dock and escorted him back to the scene. Police were called and an accident report was filed.
10:22 p.m. Aug. 22
Security responded to Herriott Residence Hall on a report that marijuana was being used in a room on the first floor. Security officers arrived and could smell marijuana coming from a first floor room. The female student in the room admitted she had smoked marijuana and turned the marijuana over to security. Police were called and confiscated the marijuana.
12:14 p.m. Aug. 24
Security and police responded to the Drake parking lot in the 2400 block of Carpenter Avenue on a report of a vehicle accident. After a police investigation and reviewing CCTV cameras in the area, it was determined that a Drake staff member backed his vehicle into another staff member’s vehicle, causing damage to both vehicles. Insurance information was left on the parked vehicle. No police report was required.
10: 15 a.m. August 25
Security and police responded to the Drake Legal Clinic lot for a hit and run report. A Drake staff member reported that she returned to her vehicle and observed damage to the rear of her vehicle. She then found a note from a witness who left the suspect’s plate number. Police filed a report.
2:38 a.m. Aug. 27
Security responded to Crawford Residence Hall on a report of two females passed out on the fourth floor. When security arrived, one underage-for-drinking female student was awake but having trouble breathing, so Des Moines Fire and Rescue was called. The second underage-for-drinking female was passed out but breathing.
The first female student stated she had four to five beers and mixed drinks. The second female student was now awake but vomiting excessively. Both students stated they had been drinking at a house party near the campus. The second student was transported to a local hospital by fire medics. The first student refused to go to the hospital. The dean of students was advised of this incident.
2:55 a.m. Aug. 27
Security responded to Ross Residence Hall on a report that a cat was in a second floor room. Security arrived and the underage-for-drinking female student let security into her room. A cat was found along with several bottles of alcohol. The cat was turned over to a friend that lives off campus. The alcohol was dumped out. The dean of students was advised of this incident.
3:51 p.m. Aug. 27
A female Drake student reported to security that she lost or someone stole her wallet and dorm room keys as she was walking home from a bar located at 3020 Forest Ave. last Friday night.
9:52 p.m. Aug. 27
A security officer on patrol noted a male throwing a trash can on the north side of the Harmon Fine Arts Center. Security tried to stop the male but he took off running. After a short foot chase the male was caught by security and identified as an underage-for-drinking Drake student. The student was very intoxicated. Des Moines Police was called. The student was arrested for public intoxication and assault on the security officer. The security officer broke his middle finger when he grabbed the student. The student also had a backpack that had vehicle mirrors in it. Police are investigating this incident. The dean of students has been advised.
3:03 a.m. Aug. 28
Security responded to Morehouse Residence Hall on a report that a male student was intoxicated on the first floor in the restroom. Security arrived and found the underage-for-drinking male student in the restroom vomiting. The student stated he had been drinking at a local bar and that he would be all right. His roommate stated he would watch him for the night. The hall staff and the dean of students were advised.
8:50 a.m. Aug. 28
Security responded to Goodwin-Kirk Residence Hall on a report of damage to the third floor men’s restroom. Custodians found a toilet seat had been removed, four mirrors had been removed off the wall and placed in shower stalls, and soap dispensers had also been removed from the walls and damaged.
3:33 p.m. Aug. 28
A female student reported to security that her laptop computer was lost or stolen from Meredith Hall. She was advised to file a police report.
3:58 p.m. Aug. 28
Security and Des Moines Fire and Rescue responded to the north side of the Olmsted parking lot on a report that a female had wrecked on a bike and was injured. Security arrived and found a non-Drake affiliated female had gone down some steps on the east side of the Olmsted building. She had some scrapes and cuts on her face and arms and a small bump on her head. Fire medics arrived. The victim declined any medical assistants.
1:20 p.m. Aug. 29
Security responded to 25th Street and University Avenue on a report of a vehicle accident. A female student worker hit the brick wall on the north sidewalk with a Drake delivery cart. There was minor damage to the cart. The Drake grounds manager was advised about the wall.
