Drake University professor and Iowa Democratic Rep. Jennifer Glover Konfrst announced the suspension of her campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives on the morning of Jan. 26.
The announcement on Konfrst’s campaign Instagram account said she “no longer believe[s] it’s in the best interest of Iowans” for her to continue her run to flip U.S. Republican Rep. Zach Nunn’s congressional seat.
“After what happened in Minneapolis this weekend and the continuous chaos, it’s just become very clear to me that we need to put all of our focus on the general election,” Konfrst told The Times-Delphic. “I think it’s really important that we focus on what our goal is in the fall, which is to beat Zach Nunn.”
With the new opening in her schedule, Konfrst said she looks forward to engaging more with her students.
“I absolutely love my job at Drake, and now I have the experience to share with [my students] as well,” Konfrst said. “I can give them an inside look at what a congressional race is like, and hopefully continue to raise good ethical communicators.”
Konfrst will continue to serve as the Iowa Representative for District 23.
