The volleyball squad dropped its first two home games of the season this past weekend against Wichita State on Friday and Missouri State on Saturday at the Knapp Center. The Bulldogs’ record dropped to 0-11 as they prepare for conference play on the road.

The Bulldogs played their first Missourri Valley Conference opponents as they took on Wichita State and Missouri State.

Freshman setter Rebecca Brown and sophomore setter Halli Meyer registered notable performances. Brown tallied 30 assists on the weekend and Meyer netted 24 assists.

Redshirt junior Sarah Madden was the top defender this weekend, racking up 31 digs while senior Jadranka Tramosljanin added 23 digs.

Lighting up the scoreboard this weekend was sophomore Amanda Platte, who recorded 17 kills.

The Bulldogs fell to the Shockers 25-20, 25-16 and 25-17 on Friday. The team played in front of parents, alumni and the Drake athletics community and remained competitive in the first set as the crowd watched, hoping for the team’s first win.

The team of Emily Adney and Elizabeth Field propelled the Shockers over the top as they registered 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Chelsey Feekin assisted on 39 points.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs took on Missouri State where they lost a close second set that seemed to drain their momentum. The Bulldogs went on to lose in straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-15.

Drake led in the first set 15-14, but an 11-1 run to close out the set by the Bears negated a set point opportunity. The third set was all Missouri State as the Bears went on to cruise to victory.

The Bulldogs will next travel to Omaha for a two game road trip. Drake will take on Nebraska-Omaha on Friday before taking on its MVC rival Creighton on Saturday.
