Drake women’s soccer concluded its regular season with a tough, double-overtime 1-0 loss to the Indiana State Sycamores on Thursday at Cownie Soccer Complex.
Indiana State’s Abby Reed notched the contest’s only goal in the 104th minute to seal the victory for the Sycamores.
Reed gathered a pass from Natalie Vaught, spun around a Drake defender inside the 18-yard box and beat Drake keeper Andrea Swanson for the golden goal.
Drake head coach Lindsey Horner noted her team’s year-long struggle to find the back of the net.
“Our players were up for the battle, but our struggle to score goals this year has been our Achilles heel, and it again caused us problems tonight,” Horner said in a Drake athletics press release. “We had decent quality box-to-box and created numerous chances, but didn’t finish the job.”
Drake outshot Indiana State 17-12 on the game, including an 11-4 advantage in the second half. The Sycamores, however, bettered the Bulldogs in shots on goal, 7-6.
The loss lowered the Bulldogs’ overall record to 3-11-4 and their Missouri Valley record to 1-4-1.
Drake earned the sixth seed in the Missouri Valley tournament and played No. 3 Loyola yesterday in the tournament quarterfinals.
