Welcome back to another exciting season of Drake intramurals. This column is a bimonthly look into the best athletes on Drake’s campus, intramural athletes.

For those of you who do not know me, I am Joanie Barry. If you are wondering why I have the authority to write this column let me give you a rundown of my resume. I started with the intramural program in the fall of 2010 as a young, innocent work-study student looking to make some extra pocket change. By the end of my freshman year I was hooked and applied for the inaugural year of junior supervisors. Junior year I worked my way up to supervisor, which is a position I hold today. As I begin my fourth year at intramurals, I can confidently say that I got the best work-study assignment on campus, though I am a little biased. I am ecstatic to be back writing for the Times-Delphic for my second year. So now that you know a little bit about me, let me introduce some other colleagues.

Bill Moorman is the boss man of intramurals. Last year he joined our team from Colorado State University-Pueblo, but he has clearly transitioned into a bulldog. Moorman starts his second and final year at Drake with his usual effervescent attitude. As always, if you have any concerns or questions related to intramurals email him at [email protected]. Even if you just want to chat, as long as he is not to busy, Moorman is always approachable. If you are looking for talking points long boarding is always a hit with Bill.

Last year we said goodbye to four incredible supervisors from our program. In their place we hired six new supervisors. Those of you keeping track at home that brings the total count to ten supervisors. Did I mention we also hired two new junior supervisors too, bringing the total count to twelve employees? Ten supervisors are the most we have ever had. Not only is there a plethora of new supervising talent, but their enthusiasm is off the charts. This intramural season promises to be an incredible one, not to mention we have also have a record number of officials this fall.

For those of you who are new to this column, every week I include some rule reminders. The goal is to help our intramural athletes keep track of the most important rules of intramurals. This week’s edition of rule reminder will be a little longer than usual because let’s be honest, even I forget intramural rules over the summer.

First, no ID, no play. Let me repeat that for emphasis: no ID, no play. To participate in intramurals you have to have your Drake ID. There are no exceptions to this rule. I am currently on my seventh Drake ID because I lose mine right before a game and have to get a new one.

Second, to play in playoffs all team members need to be signed up on the IM Leagues roster. Make sure you create an account and have your captain invite you to the team. The web address is www.imleagues.com. If you have any questions talk to your captains or contact Bill Moorman.

Last, but most important, have fun! Drake intramurals exist to better the lives of our students, but they only exist if you participate. Your job as students is to have fun with intramurals; our job as officials and supervisors is to make sure you are safe and fair while doing it.
