First up is this teal dress with pops of yellow and black worn by first-year Emma Winstead. This dress is great because it’s extremely versatile. You can wear it for a night out with your friends by dressing it up with fun heels and jewelry or pair it with cute sandals for a more casual look. As for the inspiration behind it, “My sister Grace inspires my style because she always dresses very nicely and always tells me what looks good and what doesn’t because I honestly have no idea,” Winstead said.0
The next outfit that made quite a splash was by junior Vaughn Powell. The whole look of this outfit is just so classic. The matching of this long striped dress with a loose brown cardigan makes this look stand out in its simplicity. By not over-accessorizing with chunky jewelry, Powell captured a clean and chic look. Powell’s sense of style comes from a person close to her heart, “My mom really got me going. She always dressed me as a tomboy when I was younger and she always wore loose clothing herself,” Powell said.
Next up is this casual ensemble by first-year Taylor Conroy. The bold pattern of the shirt paired with the jean button up dress shirt make for a comfy and fashionable outfit that is perfect for a day out with friends, which is exactly what Conroy was going for. “I was just going for something that is comfortable but I’m meeting a friend for lunch so I had to look cute too, I just like wearing comfortable clothes that still look good,” Conroy said. Mission accomplished!
New York Fashion Week has recently come to a close, and Drake University students have been seen around campus sporting some of this year’s trends. BCBG’s Max Azria started the week off right by showcasing some of this season’s top colors — black and white. The colors were seen again later on Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and Jason Wu’s runways. Even Michael Kors, Tibi and Kate Spade who usually favor bright colors for spring included the classy neutrals. Don’t pack away all your colors though; blue and pink were favorites this year as well. Diana Von Furstenburg, Donna Karen, Oscar De La Renta were seen carrying pink over from spring 2012’s shows; begonia was a popular shade for this season. Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Monique Lhuillier, Charlotte Ronson and Zac Posen featured blue especially this season’s new favorite, cobalt. Junior Tessa Betchwars (right) and first-year Amy Nguyen (left) followed this seasons blue trend with Betchwars tunic from Nordstroms and Nugyen’s cobalt, Tommy Girl cardigan.
