The Drake volleyball team traveled to Wichita State on Saturday, dropping the tough match on the road.
The Shockers swept the Bulldogs in three sets, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20.
In the first set of the game, the score went back-and-forth between the two teams until Wichita State finally took a 12-8 lead. The growing lead caused the Bulldogs to call a timeout, trying to regroup.
This didn’t slow the Shockers as they extended their lead 21-13 and eventually take the set 25-15.
The Bulldogs regrouped at the start of the second set and took an early 11-7 lead, forcing Wichita State to call a timeout.
The lead did not last long as Wichita State came back strong, registering four straight points to take a 16-13 lead.
The Shockers continued to roll even after the Bulldogs called a timeout, and eventually went on to win the set.
Set three proved to be the most exciting set of the game with four score ties and four lead changes.
Junior Rebecca Brown helped the Bulldogs cut into a late Shocker lead with her second kill of the game.
The effort wasn’t enough, though, as the Shockers took the final set 25-20.
Sophomore Capris Quaites stepped up for the Bulldogs with seven kills, five digs and four blocks.
Sophomore Chandelle Davidson also had an impressive game with 19 assists and eight digs.
The loss dropped Drake’s record to 1-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
The Bulldogs will face Southern Illinois and Evansville at the Knapp Center on Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
