Siblings Weekend Brings Fun to Campus

Drake’s Residence Hall Association and Student Activities Board hosted a Siblings Weekend March 6-8, filled with fun events across campus all weekend for students and their siblings.

In preparation for Siblings Weekend, RHA president Meghan Kier helped to piece together activities to engage everyone.

“We try to collaborate with other organizations such as D+ and Brocal Chords,” Kier said. “Each hall takes an event and will be hosting something, just a fun little event for the siblings and students.”

All students were encouraged to participate regardless of a sibling’s attendance. All upper class and the first year halls put on events as well as RHA as a whole, said Kier. RHA put together a scavenger hunt that lasted all weekend with prizes included and laser tag from 6-8 Saturday night.

Friday night SAB hosted their weekly Free Movie Friday featuring “Frozen” and “Frozen 2.”

Free Movie Friday has been a hit at Drake, giving students a Friday night event with friends at a low cost.

“My favorite part of Free Movie Friday used to be seeing all the people come to with their groups of friends,” Drake said.  “Being able to just have a fun night without having to pay the expensive price of a movie theater.”

Many students look forward to Siblings Weekend and Kier expected a great turnout this year.

“I have two brothers that came last year and we had a really fun time,” Kier said. “Last year was Toy Story and my siblings loved it, we really enjoy spending time together as a family.”

The yearly event began with a check in Friday afternoon. Herriot hosted the first event on Friday followed by Free Movie Friday. The Scavenger hunt was open to all students all weekend long.

Saturday morning Morehouse Hall kicked off the day with their hall event followed by a Crawford event. That afternoon, D+ and the Brocal Chords performed in Meredith 101 at 3:00 p.m.

Carpenter finished up the afternoon leading into the laser tag battle in the Drake Field House at six. At 8 p.m, Jewett Hall ended the night with activities.

Sunday morning Stalnaker and Carpenter hosted events to end the weekend of sibling fun and bonding.
