What is better than free yoga classes?
Yoga in the Park is a free class taught by volunteering yoga instructors.
Although the summer Yoga in the Park program came to an end on September 26, there are other options for outdoor yoga in Des Moines.
Denny Kelly, who became inspired by an outdoor class in Chicago, decided to start a similar program in Des Moines.
Despite September 26 being the last class for the summer, there is Pop-up Yoga classes that you can sign up for through the Facebook page.
This class meets monthly and is outdoors and indoors. Like Yoga in the Park, it is also free.
The instructors are all volunteers who are passionate about yoga. The programs are offered through Des Moines Parks and Recreation.
Yoga in the Park instructor Robin Bourjaily adds that they usually have around 125-300 people attending the class.
“Practicing outdoors is a joy. In addition, it’s a great way to meet new people and for them to experience my teaching style,” Bourjaily said.
The classes are welcome to anyone, and the instructors are all different in their yoga practice, so the class could be different each time.
Two instructors will usually teach the class, with one instructing the class and the other demonstrating the poses so everyone can see.
“My yoga is joyful, offers participants a chance to breathe, grow and explore their practice and is based in careful alignment to keep participants safe,” Bourjaily said.
Bourjaily also teaches yoga at Radiant Om Yoga in Windsor Heights. Between the outdoors and indoors, it isn’t too hard to find a yoga class near you.
