Kanye West, Kim Kardashian for president, first lady in 2020

“I’m not no politician, bro,” rapper Kanye West exclaimed nearly halfway through his 13-minute acceptance speech for the ‘Video Vanguard’ Award at the 2015 MTV VMA Awards.

Taylor Swift, who presented him with the award, watched the speech next to Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian. Both famous starlets, along with everyone in the live audience and those watching at home, seemed genuinely surprised by the direction of the speech.

At one point West admitted to “rolling up a little something,” before the show, stating that he “knocked the edge off.”

Kanye, also known as Yeezy, didn’t stop there.

After 13 minutes of rambling about listening to the kids and his distaste for award shows, Yeezy dropped one of his most spectacular lines yet. “As you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.,” Kanye said.

Cue the mic drop.

Kanye West is hailed as a visionary in some circles, a loon in others and even a rap god amongst hip-hop crusaders. Based on what he has shown the public thus far in his career – embarrassing Swift at the 2009 VMA’s, composing esoteric Twitter rants, and marrying realty royalty — West will be the center of conversation no matter if he is serious about running for the highest office in our land or not.

Let’s assume Yeezy was serious and not just coming down from his high, and examine what Kanye 2020 would look like.

With Donald Trump leading the GOP, I’m surprised more affluent celebrities haven’t tried out politics; Britney Spears would have my vote. If America is showing through early polls that inexperience and idiocy is what we want in a leader, I see no problem with West running. The media will eat up every ridiculous quote and tagline just as they have done for Trump.

Kanye’s VMA’s speech cryptically repeated the importance of listening to the children. I’m curious for the Grammys; we might then hear his views on foreign policy and immigration.

Having Kanye run for president in 2020 is one thing, but the possibility of him actually taking office is another.

The upsides of President Yeezy include the following: Jay- Z would certainly perform at the inauguration, there might finally be a presidential suit line and Kim Kardashian (assuming they are still married by then) would be first lady.

“Keeping up with the Kardashians” is such a popular show, that I’m sure the Secret Service would allow filming inside the White House for it to continue into the 50th season. Even if they didn’t, Kim would post enough selfies on Instagram that everyone could stay up to date on our government.

What about political scandal? It seems like any campaign can’t go without some sort of drama. Kim has that covered with her infamous sex tape. Her antics are sure to keep government officials on their toes. After all, who doesn’t love good gossip involving our elected officials?

While I can’t predict the future I assume Kanye will run for president in 2020 whether he knows how absurd it is or not. I fully expect his announcement speech to be riddled with the word ‘bro’ and concluded with a literal drop of the mic.
