The Principal Financial Group Center for Global Citizenship (PFGCGC) will host a panel discussion tonight entitled “Doing Business Across Cultures.”
The panel will focus on how to interact in the diverse professional world and deal with businesses across different cultures.
From 7 to 8:30 p.m. in room 101 of Aliber Hall, students can interact with five professional panel regarding international business, global investments and diversity issues in this day and age.
Claudia Schabel, Matthew Mitchell, Barbara McKenzie, Renee Schaaf and Jeffrey Kappen are all either work in international business or as Drake faculty.
Professor David Skidmore said the panel, hosted in conjunction with the Principal Financial Group, will be an excellent networking tool for students with professionals in the “real world.”
“We’re asking all of the panelists to share experiences in different cultural settings and use examples from their workplaces,” Skidmore said.
Skidmore is also the directors of the Roland and Mary Nelson Institute for Diplomacy and International Affairs.
The institute host an undergraduate conference on global affairs from April 10-11.
The purpose of the conference is to share high-quality undergraduate research.
Students are encouraged to submit papers on international or global topics for consideration and could be awarded cash prizes up to $200.
Deadline for proposing a paper is an email submission to globalcitizenship@drake.edu by Tuesday, March, 10.
Skidmore said students from colleges and universities across the Midwest will be in attendance, both to propose research, sit on student panels and to network with their peers.
There will be several speakers attending the conference including U.S Ambassador Joseph Mussomeli will give a simulation on the processes of U.S. foreign policy.
John Owen of the University of Virginia is the keynote speaker and will present on research regarding the politics of Islam.
Iowa Representative Zachary Nunn, a Drake alum and former director of cybersecurity policy on the National Security Council, will also present during a lunch session.
The keynote John Owen is open to the public, but those who wish to attend the conference without submitting a paper will be able to register until Mar. 28.
