Student Senate members were involved in a heated debate last Thursday over the allocation of funds to the Drake Choir.
With a vote of 12-10, Senate allocated $15,105 to the Drake Choir to support venue rental, recording engineer and concert promoter fees associated with the New York City Tour.
Senate unanimously approved Information Systems Audit and Control Analysis as a new official student organization.
ISACA’s purpose is to promote the education of and expand the knowledge and skills of its members in interrelated fields of information technology and governance, information systems audit, security, control and assurance.
Senate unanimously approved TEDxDrake Club as a new official student organization.
TEDxDrake Club is open to all students and promotes discussion among students about “ideas worth spreading” in the community. It encourages active involvement in the TED community and develop leadership and public-speaking skills.
Senate unanimously approved three annual fundings last Thursday.
Senate granted annual funding to the Visual Arts Association of Drake.
VAAD is open to all students and will use the funds to purchase art supplies for students to practice and by collaborating with organizations to proved artwork for their events.
Senate granted annual funding to Drake Weight Lifting Club. It will use the funds to create a campus-wide health event. Senate granted annual funding to Dogtown After Hours. It will use the funds to provide successful alcohol-alternative events each year.
Senate allocated funds to three organizations.
Senate allocated $5,177.76 to the Student Activities Board to cover transportation, lodging and registration costs associated with the National Association of Campus Activities National Conference.
Senate allocated $5,000 to the Fellowship of Catholic University Students to support transportation costs associated with the Student Leadership Summit.
Senate also discussed amending the it’s rules of procedure bylaws to increase efficiency, communication with students and overall maintenance of the body.
