Evansville sweeps Drake at home

Drake volleyball continued its losing streak against Evansville this past Sunday, losing in three straight sets 25-17, 25-12, 25-23.

The Bulldogs have yet to win a game in conference play.

Senior Sarah Madden led the team with 12 digs, and sophomore Rebecca Brown tallied 22 assists.

The Bulldogs were led offensively by Brown and junior Amanda Platte and freshmen Makena Schoene and Meredith Moore, who each had four kills.

In the first set of the game, Evansville jumped to an early lead, 8-3. The Bulldogs quickly called a timeout but failed to catch up to the Purple Aces. Drake struggled offensively to match Evansville and only compiled a .062 hitting percentage while Evansville hit .375.

Things only got worse in the second set for the Bulldogs.

Drake was unable to figure out how to rally against Evansville and finished with a hitting percentage of -.077.

Evansville was able to easily win the set 25-12.

The Bulldogs were finally able to kindle some sort of fire and fight back in the third set and took the lead at 20-18.

Evansville called a timeout when the Bulldogs maintained their 22-20 lead.

Following their timeout, the Purple Aces were able to again regain the lead from the Bulldogs and win the set 25-23.

This set proved to be the Bulldogs’ best offensively, with a hitting percentage of .184.

Overall, the Bulldogs were outplayed by Evansville.

Ashley Ring, Emma Robertson and Lauren Seyller led the Purple Aces with double-digit kills.

Defensively, Evansville was able to come out strong with 19 digs.

The Bulldogs travel to Indiana State to face the Sycamores this Friday at 6 p.m.
