80/35 Lineup Announced Today

Get those fast fingers ready to jump online to purchase tickets today for the 80/35 lineup announcement. Over 30 bands will be released over the coming weeks in preparation for the rock revolution.

The fourth annual Des Moines music festival is set for July 2-3 in Western Gateway Park. Indie rock bands and individual songwriters will hit the “515” against the artsy sculpture pieces and modern buildings that mark the blocks.
Anticipation in the music community runs high since the festival has brought national acts including Ben Harper and the Relentless7, The Flaming Lips, Matisyahu and The Roots. Last summer’s headliners featured Modest Mouse, Spoon, Slightly Stoopid and The Walkmen.
The Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC) first launched 80/35 over the 2008 July Fourth weekend. Its name comes from the two interstates that meet in a corner of Des Moines.
Rossi said that the festival has grown since its beginnings as being a music revolution for the city.
“We identified early on, when we formed DMMC, the benefits it would have for Des Moines,” Rossi said. “We thought the festival would and could target a bunch of acts. It was originally funded by Greater Des Moines Community Foundation and the City Des Moines.”
The three different stages will also offer local band shows. Rossi said the all local stage this year, will allow more bands to perform and increase the number of acts up to fifty.
Early bird ticket prices for the festival went on sale to the general public March 28th. Tickets range from $33 for a two-day ticket and $100 VIP pass. Once the early bird tickets are sold-out, prices will raise to $45 and $124 respectively.
VIP passes include closer viewing areas near the main stage, a lounge, priority entrance and free tickets for food, beverage and merchandise.
Despite rainy weather and muddy grounds, attendance to the 2010 festival was estimated at 17,000.
“A lot of people aspire to change the community and 80/35 has that ability,” Rossi said. “It’s the kind a lightning bolt that builds.”
