Over this past weekend, the Bulldogs traveled to the University of Missouri to compete in the Tom Botts Invitational. The team set several new personal records for individuals on the team and a new school record.

An article that ran in last week’s issue of the Times-Delphic raised some red flags amongst the Drake University athletic community, particularly the track and field team. The article, “Track and Field team hindered by recruitment woes,” discussed what appeared to be the struggles that Drake’s team has faced this year in competitions. However, these ‘struggles’ are more superficial than they are real.

Over this past weekend the Drake University Track and Field team competed in the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, one of the last competitions of the indoor season.
The track team traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete at Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, the field athletes receiving the week off. The Bulldogs competed with top teams including the University of Southern California, Nebraska, Alabama, as well as Missouri Valley Conference rivals Northern Iowa. The Bulldogs left with impressive times and several personal records.

Sophomore teammates drive each other to succeed
The Drake track team enjoyed four first place finishes and nine second place finishes this past weekend in the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines.
The Jim Duncan Invitational is the ultimate showcase of the track and field talent here in Iowa.
Led by the arm of sophomore Andy Curtis, the Drake men’s track and field team had a strong showing in the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., this past weekend.
The Bulldogs took fifth place overall at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
