After an impressive 4-game winning streak through the MVC Championship and Wednesday’s 2-1 upset at Kentucky, the Bulldogs were demolished by the no. 12 Creighton Blue Jays in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

At halftime in Lexington, KY, the Drake Bulldogs and the no. 17 Kentucky Wildcats are all square at 1-1 in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament
After 77 minutes of scoreless soccer, freshman Nic Jaimes took a corner kick for Drake. Four Bulldogs filed into the penalty box, but a pair of Cougar headers initially got the ball away from the goal line. They didn’t clear it fully and Ciszewski, a redshirt freshman, took advantage.
The Bulldogs proved why they were favorites in their first round matchup today against the sixth ranked Central Arkansas Bears in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship tournament in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Drake battled to a 1-1 tie with the Bradley Braves at home on Saturday evening after Gareth Smith was promoted to head coach. He has led the team as an interim head coach all season and been an assistant for the five years previous.
In a match defined by defense from both sides, the Bulldogs and the Loyola Ramblers played to a 1-1 tie, featuring redshirt senior Kyle Whigham’s first career goal. Loyola had twice as many shots on goal as Drake, but that didn’t mean much when the Bulldogs only fired two shots towards the net.
The Bulldogs hosted the Omaha Mavericks on Wednesday night and played to a 1-1 draw before losing via golden goal to the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) Cougars on Saturday.

Holmes was about to start his 18th season of coaching at Drake when his tenure came to an end on August 28. Drake Athletics announced the change in a press release that came out a little more than two hours before kickoff.
The spring season has kicked off for the Drake Men’s Soccer team, acting as a preseason for next year.
Over winter break both the Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams travelled to Mexico and were given a chance to bond with their fellow teammates, while also getting the chance to practice outdoors.
The Men’s Soccer team has signed six new players to the squad for the 2015-2016 season. Head coach Sean Holmes made the announcement on Thursday, Feb. 19, excited about what these current high school seniors could contribute to the Bulldogs.
