Will Hansen is first-year Drake students from the Chief’s territory of Kansas City. Being a football team member, a digital media productions major, and having encouraging friends and family, Hansen knew he was ready for the freedom of college.
Since football was the sole reason as to why Hansen chose Drake, he explained how he has enjoyed making new friends through the program.
“The fifth year football players inspire me the most. The blood, sweat and tears they’ve put into the program is remarkable,” Hansen said.
Ryan Erickson, a fellow teammate, found some inspiration from Hansen himself.
“No matter if it’s 4:30 a.m. in the morning before a workout or at the end of a long day in the classroom or on the field, [Will] brings a level of energy and enthusiasm that really raises the bar for everyone,” Erickson said. “He brings intensity to the field every day and busts his butt to make himself and those around him better.”
Erickson also commented on his talent and dedication off the field, describing how Hansen makes some “stellar content” for his own social media pages as well as the Drake football accounts.
“He is always working on some project outside of football and school and puts just as much energy into his hobbies as school and football, which I personally think is awesome,” Erickson said.
The hard work Hansen puts into his sport and studies is to one day reach his future career goals.
“My dream after school is to own a digital media company or to be a head athletic media director at a college,” Hansen said.
Cale Mueller, one of Hansen’s childhood friends, expressed the impact Hansen has made on his life and commented on his camera skills.
“Will is the closest thing I have to a brother. The dude is actually a part of my family. My mom calls him her son and his parents have played such a big part in my own life,” Mueller said in an email. “The number of times that he has shown up to my house unannounced and banged on my window and woke me up to hangout is unreal. He is persistent as hell. If he wants to do something, he is going to do it.”
Mueller elaborated on humorous moments of their childhood, but overall he is proud to have a friend like Hansen. Erickson echoed these comments.
“He is a good friend that you want to have on your side. He’s always a good for a laugh and just a really chill guy to be around,” Erickson said. “He pushes you to be the best version of yourself and I’m privileged to call him a friend.”
