College Football Roundup: Week 4

ONLINE EXCLUSIVE STORY BY DERRICK FRIDLEY

With Big 10 and Big 12 play now underway, this week has been an important one in college football for momentum.

One of these Big 10 teams was Michigan as they looked for a win against the early season’s Cinderella team: BYU. And for the first time this year, BYU struggled to get any offense going as they were shut out my Michigan 31-0. Michigan’s quarterback Jake Rudock led the Wolverines to victory, scoring 3 total touchdowns.

Another big game happened in the Big 12 play two Texas teams squared off in a game that was definitely fun to watch. This game was much closer than expected also, as Texas Tech was up 4 with under 5 minutes to play against TCU.

Heisman hopeful quarterback Trevone Boykin lead TCU on an incredible drive down the field to score the game winning touchdown with only seconds left in the game to win 55-52.

There have also been a lot of good games in the PAC 12 this past week as ranked Oregon faced off against Utah.

This game got surprisingly ugly as Utah quarterback Travis Wilson scored a total of 5 touchdowns and Oregon had troubles producing any offense, Utah winning 62-20.

Likewise, UCLA was able to pull of an impressive win over Arizona, 56-30.

In the SEC this week, elite running backs aimed to prove their Heisman worth. Nick Chubb of Georgia, one of the Heisman frontrunners, lead his team to victory against Southern 48-6. Chubb rushed for 131 yards with two touchdowns.

Another SEC back may be catching up to him though, as LSU running back Leonard Fournette put the team on his back, carrying the ball for 244 yards and two TDs, as they beat Syracuse 34-24.

Looking inside the state this week, Iowa pulled off a very impressive win against North Texas 62-16. Iowa fans are really excited for the remainder of the season as they enter conference play unbeaten, and hope to be that way next week after they play #19 Wisconsin. Iowa State did not get off to the start that they hoped to this year and look to rebound against Kansas.

Lastly, a rare Division III team made the news doing something that is rarely seen. Salisbury University in Maryland pulled off one of the more impressive wins that I have ever seen, in the form of a 91-point victory against Southern Virginia.

This might not seem too impressive if it weren’t for the fact that the team won while only completing two passes the entire game.

Next week looks to be feature some even more important matchups, as many games with possible playoff implications will be played.

One of those is Notre Dame facing Clemson. Both of these teams look to remain unbeaten with title hopes on the line.

Also next week, two Heisman running backs take the field as Alabama will play Georgia.

Lastly, Baylor is on upset alert this week, as Texas Tech tries to do what they almost did to TCU, beat a top 5 team.
