Assistant Community Engagement Director Renee Sedlacek announced that Drake University is applying for recognition from the Carnegie Foundation, a prestigious collegiate institution, at the Student Senate meeting on Thursday night.
The recognition would affirm Drake’s impact in surrounding communities.
Sedlacek said she hopes to have a final draft in January and is looking for input from senators and students. The application deadline is in April.
Sedlacek also reminded students of the Sept. 29 Des Moines Move event, a project dedicated to health and fitness. Des Moines Move is from noon to 4 p.m. on University Avenue between 23rd and 41st streets.
The event will feature booths from local businesses and organizations, including Mars Café and Harmony Yoga.
In other news, three campus organizations were awarded funding. Men’s Ultimate Club, Women’s Ultimate Club and Weightlifting Club received $2,718.00, $1,284.30 and $2,520.00, respectively. Senate approved their requests unanimously.
